Chronillogical

I’m a sucker for time travel, aren’t you? I grew up watching Doctor Who on PBS and wearing out my family’s VHS copy of Back to the Future. Suffice to say, I love the concept. Not in any kind of eerie way-too-personal sort of way, I don’t wish I could go back in time and win the pennant for my high school. No, I just enjoy the freedom of the narratives. Once you take the linearity of time out of the equation, you open up the doors to any and all possibilities. Bearing all that mind, I really like John Chouinard and Greg Poulos’ strip, Chronillogical.

Chouinard and Poulos describe Chronillogial as, “…a webcomic about time traveling grad students.” But I have to say, it’s so much more, for starters it’s extremely well drawn. A sort of fusion of Chuck Jones and Kyle Baker, two artists I love and whose love child I’ve been eager to see. But like all comics, the art is only half the equation. As far as the writing, I think within its idiom it’s kind of brilliant. Each page is a satisfying addition to the narrative, while also introducing a gamut of gags and jokes. It’s the sort of strip I can’t wait to see collected into a treasury. I think the effect of John and Greg’s story on the printed page, is going to push their vision even farther.

A lot of people might describe this strip as wacky, but I wont go there. Rather, it’s frenetic and strange; high energy weirdness… Which, I think, is the effect their going for. It really is a gem.

There’s tons of content, I hope you can make the time to read it.

EDIT: When I originally posted this, I forgot to mention the other half of this team, John Chouinard. My apologies John, I’ll get my eyeballs replaced.

My comic for sale – Misanthropia Chapter One

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

Today is a special post, it comes 24 hours in advance because I couldn’t help myself. Anyway, in case you haven’t put the pieces together I have a comic for sale. Er… right in time for the holidays…? Self-promotion has never been one of my strong suits. Regardless of that, I present to you

Misanthropia Chapter One

Specs and Blurb

Printed: 54 pages, 6″ x 9″, perfect binding, 60 interior paper (cream# weight), black and white interior ink, white exterior paper (100# weight), full-color exterior ink

Description:

Misanthropia Chapter One is the opening act of Danny Zabbal’s bizarre and funny story about the past, the future and the subconscious. Paul St.Clair, a charming ne’er-do-well, finds himself stranded on a tropical island. Dumbfounded with amnesia, he seeks the aid of a mysterious stranger to reassemble his shattered memories. His journey draws him back through his horrifying jobs, and tenacious revenge fantasies.

Secrets and Confessions

I know most of you don’t know about this book, and there’s been little to no writing about it on my blog. It must feel like I’ve been hiding this little secret from you. I hope I didn’t offend anyone but some projects require some timing on the part of the creator. Besides, I wanted to wait until there was an audience to see it. My self-esteem wouldn’t have been able to handle a ripe juicy comic, hanging off the tree with no one to pick it. That would break my heart.

So…To buy your very own copy for only $8.95 (USD), please click here! Or, click on the button in the upper right hand corner of the link menu.

Pre-thanks

If you decide to buy it, I hope you enjoy. It’s a little more grounded in reality then my webcomic but I think you’ll be able to detect similar themes and same sense of humor that people keep telling me I have. It’s very autobiographical, so be prepared for gooey rhapsodies of inner-selfness.

Take care,
dZ
