Hesperus / Kung Fu Cats

Hesperus
This is a rotoscoped animation I did in film school. Its a little abstract but I think you’ll like it.
Kung Fu Cats
Now, I don’t really go in for these advertising shenanigans but this particular car commercial has some class. I sort of wish there was an entire movie like this. Sorry, I don’t actually know the credits. If anyone can point me in that direction, I’d appreciate it.

Pretty neat Danny. It has a bit of a Moebius vibe going, a bit of Heavy Metal in it.

… “Hesperus” is very late 60’s Euro-French animation, particularly with the music and the pacing… for some reason it puts me in mind of Stanislaw Lem’s book “Solaris”… I watch this sort of thing these days and think, “Chr*st! How many hours did he put into that!”… thanks for the look…
… and the “Kung Fu Cats” is currently screening, just in case you wanted to know, all over Australian free-to-air TV…

@Greg: My pleasure!
@Tom: Good eye Tom, Moebius and Heavy Metal (the film) were big inspirations. As well as the work of Jack Kirby and Geoff Darrow. There’s also this obscure animated film called Fantastic Planet, where I cherry picked a few ideas.
@Nigel-63: To answer your question, many hours… many, many hours. The shooting itself took place over four days but the assembly took the better part of seven months… Excluding two months of tests and visual research. I pretty much lived in my bathrobe and fuzzy slippers for 9 months.

Hi Danny – been reading a while, first comment. Love the comic!
Also there seems to be an extended version of kung fu kittens… it says “Episode One” so maybe there will be more:

I found the sequels, they’re at the website. They’re an… I dunno, animated webcomic? Starts here:

Enjoy.
