Monster Commute

I think it’s easy to forget the sheer design power of comics. Although we associate cartooning with line and figure, fundamentally it’s is a medium of layout and shape. Whenever I read Daniel Davis’ webcomic Monster Commute I’m reminded of that. It’s a brilliant fusion of good old fashioned comic strip humor and good old fashioned aesthetic prowess. Rather than relying on line, like the rest of us bozos, he assembles his stories with subtle forms and slick compositions. The outcome is absolutely charming, expressive and colorful… what more could you ask for?
Any comic that can evoke an essential sense of artistry isn’t just a good read, it’s good for you. I highly recommend you go to his site and devour his archives. Check it out, it’s super-cool: www.monstercommute.com
